GIVE THANKS
Pressed together, my brothers, my sister, and myself were in the backseat of my parent’s car. There we were, small in size, tiny little things we were, filled with excitement as our parents were taking the back country roads to visit our grandparents for the holidays. We could hardly wait. Our anticipation was exuberant and had reached its capacity with the results of trembling knees and clenching the leather seats of our father’s sedan. Oh, how we waited all year long for this beautiful holiday with great rewards and with the most blessed turkey ever! Thanksgiving was here and our little souls said yes, yes to the blissful holiday that we all call thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is one of the most beautiful times of the year. This holiday enables us to celebrate the life that the good Lord gave us with gratitude and appreciation for all that God in heaven has provided. Oftentimes we take life for granted, not realizing that our heavenly Father has provided us with everything we need. All we have and possess is primarily because of the love of our Father God in heaven. All we don’t have gives us the opportunity to pray for our heavenly Father to bless us where there is a need. Many of God’s people have a great need for increased finances, employment, extended families, homes, home renovations, health improvement, and holy matrimonies. These categories fall in most families many times having a lack where there should be fulfilled petitions. Yes, beloved, we are to petition heaven until our requests are met.
A petition is defined, as a formal request, typically one signed by many people, appealing to authority with respect to a particular cause. In this situation, we are to make our request to God. He is our authority, through prayer. There is not anything on this earth that God in heaven will not give you if it is in his will. Therefore, with confidence, make your request unto God today and he will grant you your heart's desire.
In every case, we are to thank our heavenly Father for our petitions, before he grants us our desires. This is the test of faith, children: the substance of things hoped for, and evidence of things not seen. We are to thank God in every essence of our prayers, believing God will grant us our requests. There is not any good thing that God will uphold from those who walk upright! With this good news, one must forever rejoice because your blessing is on its way.
Myself and my siblings sat in the back seat our of parents’ car, as our little hearts pounded with thanksgiving. We did not have a doubt that the turkey dinner would not be there. We were so small in age and size perhaps we didn’t pray for a wonderful turkey dinner for Thanksgiving, but it was a desire in our little hearts. We were so thankful for what was about to occur. Our family from up North would oftentimes join us as we celebrated the fellowship with one another because they were from afar. It was truly a beautiful time. My grandmother cooked the best turkey dinner, until this day, that I have eaten ever! And my grandfather, who we called “Buddy” was truly a buddy indeed. He made everyone happy and told jokes and kept us all laughing as we all waited for the very last finale of our dinner, which was the turkey. Oh, how we gathered together, our father and mother, my siblings, my aunts, uncles, and cousins, around this blessed turkey as we held hands around the table and gave God thanks for all he has done for us.
Oh, how we love thee, Oh God. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. You are an everlasting God that withholds nothing from your children. Your hands are never empty, for they are full of righteousness. Everlasting God, filled with love and truth. We petition you, heavenly Father, we, your children here on earth, that you will grant every reader that is reading this letter, their heart’s desire. Bless them right and early, speedily, oh my God, for there is a need for a blessing at this very moment. Heal the sick, make crooked paths straight, feed the hungry, and open wounds to bring forth the fruit of life. And heal the lame, may deaf ears pop open, and do what you only know how to do: a miracle for each reader. Wonderful Jesus, send prosperity now to your people, for we thank you in advance, without murmuring or complaining until it comes because we know it is coming because all we have prayed is your will. We are your children, blessed Father, the children of faith. We wait for thee, oh Lord, as Israel waited for you early in the mornings, so we wait for thee. Bless your people and we thank you again, in advance, because these petitions are your will and we know our request is yes. Thank you Father for hearing our petitions through your humble children. In Jesus Christ's name, we give you thanks. Amen.
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (PHILIPPIANS 4:6).
“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him” (I JOHN 5: 14-15).
“At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes”(MATTHEW 11:25).
Glory be to God,
Reverend Helen Trower
